Speculative Fiction…

From the same blog….”Speculative fiction is a little different from regular fiction. In regular fiction, a story’s context is this world, our real, actual world. So the context is not fictional. If an apple falls, there is no need for an author to mention that it falls “down.” The way gravity works in the story and the way gravity works in real life is tacitly the same. However, in spec fic, the fiction creeps into the context as well. For example, the characters could be on a spaceship, in which case, there is no “down.” A. K. Ramanujan’s A Story And A Song is a great example of what’s possible in spec fic.”
