The invisible world of the contract manufacturers

Have you heard of a company called Hon Hai Precision Co. ?

No? Maybe, you have heard of Foxconn? (Foxconn is Hon Hai’s brand name – the subsidiary companies & their products are usually called Foxconn).

No?

Well, I hadn’t heard of them, either. They are a very small $27 billion entity that assemble laptops/PCs, make a hazaar laptop components, and own the IP for a lot of the design as well. Wonder when they will decide to also put on their own logo. In 2004, the company’s revenues was < $15 billion. In a year’s time, they have almost doubled in revenue terms. Amazing!

I don’t know enough yet, but from what I can make out, it seems to me, China’s economic development is unbelievably skewed to the South East China region.
