Where have all the philosophers gone?

Here’s my book recommendation of the month – “The Mahatma and the Poet : Letters and Debates between Gandhi and Tagore 1915-1941″ edited by Sabyasachi Bhattacharya.

Many excellent debates, two in particular stand out. Tagore’s opposition to the Non-cooperation movement, and to Gandhi’s use of Charka as a symbol of Swaraj. In particular, Tagore’s warnings about non-cooperation are fascinatingly prescient.

The letters and essays are a wonderful peek into the minds of two remarkable men.  Maybe I will post a passage or two, and my own thoughts, at some point. For now, I am still enjoying the book.

Another excellent book I am reading right now – River Sutra by Gita Mehta. Without being fantasies, the stories pull you into an almost fantastical world.
