  1. Dusk settles in on the highway. The orange pause of the evening soaks into the traffic lights.

    (with apologies to Basho)

    • 🙂 Play around with that a little more, and you won’t have to apologise to Basho!!

      But it’s haiku worthy na?

      • Actually, that’s quite nice. Playing around is not as easy as I thought it would be 🙂

      • adab, adab! 🙂

      • Let me hasten to add that I have the advantage of being inspired by Basho as a side-effect of Tokyo subway travel:
This one, for example, is inspired by,

“How quiet it is. The sound of the cicadas soaks into the rocks.”

(, or something like that), courtesy a tourism ad in Yoyogi station.

      • Another perspective…

…Not so great, but I couldn’t let go of the idea. 🙂

The scent of sunset washes over. An amber sea alerting me to the fading lights.

(i know the colour is not amber, but let’s assume it is so!!!!!)

      • Lovely haiku btw.

You see how Basho uses “sound and soak” together? Not a typical correlation, I would think. Fascinating, isn’t it?

The reason I love haikus & Vikram Seth so is that both are so simple & yet force you to look beyond the ordinary.
