the death of the license raj

There are two parts to the Indian economic liberalization story.

1) The end of the license raj
2) Globalization

I think we tend not to pay enough attention to the former. In all the brouhaha over globalization, the end of the license raj is a story thats not received adequate coverage. When IMO, that is the real reason for the spurt in private enterprise.

Hmm…I guess it probably did get written to death ten years ago. Still a reminder would help

  1. You’re quite right… Till I read Gurucharan Das’s book, I had no idea about the extent of damage created by this license raj. And the remanents of that age are still powerful enough in most public and governmental sectors to hold back everyone’s potential from reaching their peak.
