The Australian open

Fantastic Australian open. And now a Federer Vs Safin final. It just doesn’t get better than that. Regretfully have only managed to catch bits and pieces of the action so far. But two matches I don’t want to miss now are the Federer-Safin final and the Paes-Navratilova mixed doubles final.

Tennis is the most beautiful sport on the planet. Cricket is great, a free flowing Real Madrid football game gorgeous to watch, but for pure skills, desire, heart and courage, nothing comes close to Tennis.

Nothing to choose between Safin and Federer. Both seem to be in great form. Should be a roaring match. But am plugging for Federer in tomorrow’s final – IMO, the second most talented player to have ever touched a tennis racquet, next only to John McEnroe.

And well, what can one say about Martina? The goddess of all great things. If ever you need inspiration, don’t look beyond her. 47 and still winning grand slams. Simply amazing.

I think Tennis is in great hands. Roddick, Federer, Safin, Ferrero and Nalbandian – these are the guys who will dominate the next few years. Philippousis, Hewitt, Coria, Rafael Nadal – these guys are going to play the supporting cast.

Gazing at the crystal ball, fitness permitting, I see a Nalbandian – Ferrero clash in the French open finals, a Roddick-Federer bust up at Wimbledon and a Safin-Roddick aceathon in the US open. Also think this will be Agassi’s last year on the circuit. I hope he wins another slam. Me thinks his best chance will be at the French if Ferrero falls by the wayside.
