That round boat thingy is called a Coracle in English. Generally, teak leaves are used to make Theiyal Elais. My akka paati(great grandmom) used to eat only in these. As a rough generalization I guess that would hold true for most great grandmoms. Apparently the Vaikunta perumal temple at kanchipuram has flowers entwined, as in a veni of actual flowers made of stone. That sure beats the entwined stone rings hollow.

All this and more thanks to my periappa from mumbai.
